Welcome to BADMINTON MUSEUM OF IRELAND.

Welcome to the latest updates to our website.

The Gallery item displays a photograph from 1925 of a British Isles team that toured Canada playing exhibitions across Canada in addition to one exhibition in New York. The team includes Frank Devlin, arguably Ireland’s greatest ever player and George Thomas who subsequently presented the Thomas Cup for International Men’s competition. Devlin later moved to America on a permanent basis before returning to Ireland in 1976

The Historical item shows a letter from Geoff Trapnell to Chick Doyle confirming his selection as captain of the Irish team for a Thomas Cup match against Denmark and on a team to play Scotland in Terenure Badminton Centre in 1964. It is interesting to note the importance of Mary O’Sullivan (Bryan) to the team as she is selected to play in three matches.

We are grateful to all those who have donated material to the Museum. We know that there is a significant heritage of Irish Badminton and we are keen to preserve this heritage that covers the game in all its aspects. We would welcome material covering club and county Badminton.
