The Historical item displays a Press report on the Welsh Open Championships and gives much information on Willoughby Hamilton, one of Ireland’s most successful players. He won many Open titles and in 1934 Sir George Thomas named him the best Men’s Singles player in the world.
The Gallery item is a fine photograph of the competitors at the 1951 Glasgow World Invitation Tournament. This shows a fine array of the World’s players at that time and confirms the status of Irishmen Frank Peard and Jim FitzGibbon as amongst the World’s best.
We are very appreciative of Badminton Ireland’s CEO David McGill in writing to all Badminton Clubs of the Museum project and we hope that it will result in much valuable information being supplied to the Museum. We are also glad to assist Badminton Ireland in plans they have to celebrate their 120th Anniversary
