Welcome to the June 2018 uploads.
Just recently we were very pleased to have an official opening of the Museum. The opening was performed with delightful style by multi All-England winner Sue Peard. She thanked the Trustees who have progressed the Museum project and also expressed thanks to Leinster Branch for their support. The President of the Branch, Tommy McGrath, expressed his pleasure at the work in getting to this stage. Chairperson, Vivien Hood, welcomed all those who attended and thanked Sue for doing the opening and made a small presentation to her. We were particularly pleased and honoured that Frank Peard was in attendance. His support for the Museum is hugely significant. The opening was held prior to the Leinster Branch General Meeting so it was an opportunity for those attending the AGM to see around the Museum.
We had very surprising contact from Nippon Badminton Association. A number of Association officials are travelling to Europe at the end of August to do some research on the culture of Badminton in Europe. They became aware of the Museum through our website, www.badmintonmuseumireland.ie/, and we are looking forward to some interesting conversations with them when they come to Dublin.
In the Gallery section we are displaying some images from the Museum including from the official opening.
The Historical Item displays a very interesting article from 1953. This was written by Frank Peard and he used the 50th. Anniversary of the first ever match between Ireland and England to tease out the problem of comparing players from different generations. I think he deals well with the oft held view by the current generation that they hold the ultimate in skill levels.
