The purpose of the Badminton Museum of Ireland is to preserve the great heritage of Irish Badminton and to make the general badminton public aware of it.
Welcome to the March addition of uploads to our website
The Gallery item displays an image of Mary Bryan receiving on Honorary Life Membership of Badminton Union of Ireland from Geoff Trapnell. This took place in 1975 in recognition of Mary’s contribution to Irish Badminton. It must be said that her contribution since that date has also been considerable
The Historical Item is a fairly detailed report on the early rounds of the Irish Open Championships of 1931 played in Elm Park. It is interesting to note that the International match against took place during the Championships rather than before they started as was more common in later years
Progress continues towards the opening of the Museum and we should be able to confirm a date for this very shortly.
I was delighted to receive a further donation of material from the Peard Collection comprising very interesting trophies and books. The Museum will always welcome material from any section of the game from International details to grassroots material. The recent seminar on the Hidden History of Irish Sports History made it clear that much interesting material is waiting to be discovered.
