Welcome to BADMINTON MUSEUM OF IRELAND.

The purpose of the Badminton Museum of Ireland is to preserve the great heritage of Irish Badminton and to make the general badminton public aware of it.

Welcome to the latest upload of items.

The Gallery item displays a Press photograph from 1963 taken at the finals of the Gorey and District League Championships Finals. All players were of a good standard but probably two players stand out. Mary Sinnott is now better known as Mary Dinan and her Badminton achievements are very well known. Marie Kinsella was also an excellent player, particularly in Mixed Doubles and she represented the Southern Branch on many occasions. This was at a time when Wexford was part of the Southern Branch (now titled Munster Branch).

The historic item is an extract from the programme for the Ireland v. Scotland match that was played in City Hall Cork. From a heritage point of view I find that articles within match programmes add to our knowledge. This programme was kindly donated to the Museum by Frank Peard.

Progress is being made towards an opening of the Museum Space in Baldoyle but at a slightly slower rate than anticipated. However most of the difficulties have been overcome and Leinster Branch have suggested that January 22nd. Where the Premier League is scheduled would be a suitable opening date. If matters can be finalised before then this will be announced.

As always we are keen to receive loans or donations of material and would like to see a spread of items across the Badminton Ireland area and covering all standards of activity.
