The purpose of the Badminton Museum of Ireland is to preserve the great heritage of Irish Badminton and to make the general badminton public aware of it.
Welcome to the new issue.
The Gallery Item displays a photograph of the Irish and Danish teams which played in the European Zone final of the Uber Cup. Earlier in the season Ireland had beaten Sweden in the first round and then went on to beat Scotland in Belfast. The Danes were too strong on this occasion and won the tie 6-1. The only Irish winner was Mary Bryan nee O’Sullivan who won her singles match. Denmark subsequently went down to U.S.A in the final tie. Sue Peard nee Devlin was a member of the successful American team.
The Historical Item displays a match sheet for the Section A final of the Midland League (now Dublin and District League, played in 1935. The winners, Epworth, have a very long history of involvement in competitive Badminton. The Club was formed in 1921 and it still competes in League and Cup competitions.
We are glad to report that there is continuing progress to having a display space in Baldoyle Badminton Centre and it is hoped to have public viewing of items towards the end of September. As the mission of Badminton Museum of Ireland is to preserve the heritage of Irish Badminton we are keen to receive donations or loans of items of historical interest.
