The purpose of the Badminton Museum of Ireland is to preserve the great heritage of Irish Badminton and to make the general badminton public aware of it.
Welcome to the latest upload of material to Badminton Museum of Ireland Website.
The historical item is a report in Badminton Gazette from November 1956. Two main items feature here, a preview of the upcoming Uber Cup Match against Sweden to be played at Whitehall Road and a report on the visit of the Surrey County team to play three matches. In relation to the Uber Cup team the writer does quite an analysis of the team selection. The selectors seemed to have a good job as the Irish Team win 6-1. The visit of the Surrey team generated a lot of interest as their team included a number of English International players. It is amazing that they played County Dublin in three matches on successive days in Dublin, Carlow and Sligo. Having been fortunate to attend the Carlow match I can confirm that the play was of the highest standard. For the record Surrey won 6-3 in Dublin and 5-4 in Carlow and Sligo.
The Gallery item displays an image from the 40th. Anniversary celebration of the opening of Terenure Badminton Centre. Both Dick Bell and Ken McComas have passed away. They were both accomplished players and contributed significantly to the Leinster Branch and particularly in relation to the building of the Centre in 1954. It is good to note that Frank Peard was able to attend at the 60th. Anniversary in 2014 and continues to have a very strong interest in Badminton in all its aspects.
I would be very pleased to receive donations or loans of material for the Museum and I can be contacted through the website
