Welcome to BADMINTON MUSEUM OF IRELAND.

The purpose of the Badminton Museum of Ireland is to preserve the great heritage of Irish Badminton and to make the general badminton public aware of it.

The Gallery item is this issue shows the presentation of trophies at a tournament in Derry in 1962. Although not confirmed it is likely to have been the Northwest Championships. I was unable to establish with certainty the official people in the background. It is worth noting the longing look that Ruth Allison is giving to the trophy.

The Historical Item is an interesting press cutting from 1935 which bemoans the size of entries in the Irish Championships. I wonder did any players take up the journalist’s offer to air their views. I suspect not. For the record the winners in that year were

Men’s Singles – Willoughby Hamilton
Women’s Singles – Mavis Macnaughton nee Hamilton
Men’s Doubles – Tom Boyle and Jim Rankin
Women’s Doubles – Norma Stoker and Mavis Macnaughton
Mixed Doubles – Tom Boyle and Olive Wilson
