The purpose of the Badminton Museum of Ireland is to preserve the great heritage of Irish Badminton and to make the general badminton public aware of it.
The Gallery Item this month displays the Leinster Junior Interprovincial Team. This was donated by Jack Lee who was a very regular competitor at the top level and was very supportive of young invitees to Knights Badminton Club. He represented Pembroke for many years.
As Curator I am keen that there not be a total concentration on the top level of the game centred in Dublin and Belfast. The historical Item displays a report from the County Affairs Committee for the 1966/67 season. This was only the second season that the competitions were run and it seems that this was a Midland (Leinster) Branch initiative but catered for Counties from all four Provinces. It is interesting to note the comment in relation to the part that the Committee plays between the Branches and the Clubs. This is still very much the case.
At the moment there is nothing further to report on any progress towards a location for a Museum but the Trustees will continue in their efforts to progress the matter. In the meantime our appeal is that Badminton people will retain any items of historical interest and I will welcome any indication of any material that could be donated or loaned to the Badminton Museum of Ireland.
