The purpose of the Badminton Museum of Ireland is to preserve the great heritage of Irish Badminton and to make the general badminton public aware of it.
In this issue the Gallery Item displays a photograph of K.P.H Badminton Club Tralee winners of the Haynes Challenge Cup in 1933/34 season. Junior Griffin, acknowledged expert on Kerry Badminton tell me that the Trophy was presented in 1930 by William Haynes who was at that time Honorary Secretary of the Munster Branch. The club is no longer active. Junior has produced a history of Kerry Badminton and I am very much looking forward to reading this. The photograph is displayed by kind permission of Leinster Branch.
There are a number of interesting matters in the press report displayed in the Historical Section. Dundalk is mentioned regularly in old press reports and the Co. Louth Open was for very many years one of the major events on the Irish Calendar. The interest in top class play is evident from the full house in the Gas Company for the Dublin v. Derry match. Also the New Hall Fund Committee will expect to get a good return from a match in Carlow featuring top class players, Jeff and Heather Robson, who are visiting to play in the Irish Open. There is an interesting difficulty for the Dublin and District Leagues and Cups Committee in arranging play off matches. At that time clubs were asked to make their hall available as a neutral venue. Evidently some clubs were slow to co-operate. With two Branch halls this is no longer a problem. This item is displayed by kind permission of Peard Collection
