The purpose of the Badminton Museum of Ireland is to preserve the great heritage of Irish Badminton and to make the general badminton public aware of it.
In this issue we have displayed an interesting letter from Chick Doyle, in his capacity as Branch President, to the Executive Chairperson seeking more involvement with the Counties. Subsequently the Leinster County Affairs Committee was formed and it has been running Inter-county, Inter-league and individually competitions very successfully for over 30 years. The culmination of this work will be when Dublin as a County participates fully. It is good to know that work is in progress in this regard.
The Gallery item displays a fine image of Midland Branch and Cambridge University teams prior to a fund raising event for the building of a new Hall. The note attached indicates that visiting teams generally played in Dublin and also in a venue in the Counties. This particular visiting team was especially attractive as it included the All-England winning Choong brothers. Matches and exhibitions such as these were a very useful way of raising funds at that time. The economics of such events at the present time would be problematical.
Please contribute suggestions or criticisms of this site and these will be seriously considered with a view to increasing the involvement of the Badminton population.
