The purpose of the Badminton Museum of Ireland is to preserve the great heritage of Irish Badminton and to make the general badminton public aware of it.
The holding of the European Championships in Dublin in 1976 must rate as one of the highlights of Irish Badminton. It offered a week of fantastic Badminton, which was enjoyed by a large number of spectators. Such an event cannot be organised without a major voluntary contribution and the photograph in the Gallery section is shown as a tribute to those who took on the major roles.
The Press report on the County Championships is included because it is at this time of the season that these events are taking place. It is interesting that the Midland (Leinster) Branch initiated the championships almost 60 years ago. Many of the points raised in the article are still relevant. The Leinster event still receives strong entries but at National level the entries are quite low and this is disappointing. There are a number of reasons for this but perhaps a fresh look at the rules and format might be beneficial.
The Trustees are still working towards obtaining suitable storage and display facilities and are hopeful of some progress in the near future. As usual all comments are welcome through the website.
